The Pope Leo XIV x White Sox connection just got stronger. The second news broke that the new pope was American and born and raised in Chicago every sports fan in the country had exactly one burning question: Cubs or White Sox? Soon enough, reports confirmed he’s a fan of the White Sox, though not before a bogus rumor claiming he rooted for the Cubs. Then came the killer proof: video surfacing of the newly named Pope Leo XIV in the stands back in 2005, cheering on the Sox as they completed their four-game demolition of the Houston Astros to win the World Series. (RELATED: CEO Of Toyota Sports MAGA Gear At NASCAR Event) After XIV (real name Robert Prevost) was elected pope back in May, the White Sox would get new ownership a month later with Justin Ishbia purchasing the franchise. Ishbia also happens to be friends with OutKick founder Clay Travis. Well, Ishbia and Travis were speaking with one another about ways that the former could introduce himself to the White Sox faithful, and that’s when Travis came up with the idea to dish out an invitation to Pope Leo to throw the first pitch at the franchise’s new stadium. And that’s exactly what they did. “[Vatican] ambassador [Brian] Burch loved the idea and, this morning in Vatican City, Justin and his wife Kristen met the pope, delivered a team autographed 2005 White Sox World Series replica jersey, and conveyed the first pitch invitation to Pope Leo, who said yes so long as his schedule permits. (It turns out the pope is kind of busy),” wrote Travis in a piece published on OutKick. My biggest takeaway from this is that Clay Travis is just casually friends with people who buy MLB franchises . LMAO . wow.
