JACKSON The 2025 Soul Bowl had big plays, a fumbled kneeldown, a comeback and an exciting finish. In short, it had everything including a championship celebration at the end. Jared Lockhart completed 15 of 17 passes for 194 yards and a touchdown, and also ran for a TD as Jackson State beat Alcorn State 27-21 on Saturday to clinch the Southwestern Athletic Conference East Division championship for the second year in a row. It’s also JSU’s fourth division title in five years. The Tigers (9-2, 7-1 SWAC) will host Prairie View A&M (9-3, 7-1) in the conference championship game on Dec. 6. They beat Alcorn State (5-7, 4-4) for the fourth time in five meetings. Lockhart scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter, and threw a 55-yard TD pass to Nate Rembert late in the second to give JSU a 24-7 lead at halftime. Rembert finished with seven receptions for 120 yards and Ahmad Miller ran for 106 yards. Jackson State wound up hanging on by the skin of its teeth, however, as Alcorn roared back. Reggie Davis scored on a 44-yard run and Jaylon Tolbert threw a 17-yard TD pass to Tyran Warren to get the Braves to within 27-21 with 2: 26 to go. Tolbert also threw a 64-yard TD pass to Warren in the second quarter and finished 21-of-33 passing for 234 yards and two TDs. Warren caught seven passes for 111 yards and the two touchdowns. Davis ran for 120 yards and one touchdown. Jackson State got the ball after Warren’s second touchdown and picked up a first down to go into victory formation with 1: 09 remaining. Lockhart fumbled the snap, however, and Alcorn’s Orlandus McLaurin recovered at the Alcorn 45-yard line to give the Braves one last chance. They picked up a first down before being forced to throw to the end zone from the 43. Tolbert got two shots at it, both of which were knocked down, as Jackson State escaped with the victory.
