TV: FS1 Radio: 860 AM KTRB Series history: San Diego State leads 24-21-2; Aztecs are 12-3-1 at home against the Spartans SJSU storylines: SJSU won the last matchup between the two schools, 24-13 in 2023. SJSU fired defensive coordinator Derrick Odum following a 55-10 loss against Nevada. Inside linebackers coach Bojay Filimoeatu will serve as the interim defensive coordinator for the final two games. During SJSU’s loss to Nevada, the Spartans only had 270 total yards of offense, one yard more than their season low against Texas. Quarterback Walker Eget is coming off his worst game as an SJSU starter, only throwing for 74 yards and three interceptions. The Spartans are 0-5 on the road this season. SJSU was projected to finish third in the Mountain West in the preseason poll but sit at 10th in the conference. San Diego State storylines: SDSU is 8-2 overall, but needs to win out in order to have a chance at a College Football Playoff bid. SDSU is coming off a 17-7 win over Boise State. The Aztecs are 5-0 at home, outscoring opponents 162-38 with two shutouts. San Jose State is the first team SDSU will play with a sub . 500 record since Oct. 11 against Nevada. SDSU’s defense has three shutouts on the season which is the most in FBS, two of them coming against Cal and Fresno State. The Aztecs were picked eighth in the preseason poll but currently sit in sole possession of first in the Mountain West. Stats that matter: Aztecs running back Lucky Sutton is the MW rushing leader with 1, 048; he’s the only player in the conference to eclipse the 1, 000 mark. SJSU wide receiver Danny Scudero leads FBS in receiving yards with 1, 155 receiving yards and is tied for first in the MW with 10 receiving touchdowns. Over his past two games, Eget has thrown five interceptions without a touchdown after not throwing a pick since week two against Texas. SDSU is 10th in the MW in total passing offense (160. 16 yards per game) but are third in the conference in total rushing offense (189. 70 yards per game). SDSU also has the second-best total pass defense in the conference (162. 20 yards per game) and has forced more turnovers (11) than touchdowns allowed (10).
