Former India cricketer Kris Srikkanth made a scathing remark on SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) star Nitish Kumar Reddy amid the second Test against South Africa. He remarked that Nitish Reddy could not be called an all-rounder. Ad Srikkanth highlighted that apart from his century in Melbourne during the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), there has been no significant performance from Nitish. Moreover, he added that he hardly bowls in Tests and even questioned his bowling skills. “Who called Nitish Reddy an all-rounder? Looking at his bowling can anyone call him an all-rounder? He hit that one century in Melbourne. Good. Tell me what has he done in Test cricket after that? One sunny day doesn’t make a summer. If he is an all-rounder then I am also a terrific all-rounder. You cannot term him as an all-rounder. Does he have any pace or any movement or anything?,” he said on his YouTube channel ‘Cheeky Cheeka’. Ad Trending Notably, Nitish bowled just six overs in the first innings of the ongoing second Test. He has bowled 82 overs in 14 innings for India so far. With Nitish not bowling a lot, Srikkanth questioned the need for an extra so-called all-rounder and why a pure batter like Sarfaraz Khan was not considered instead. “I dont understand why Sarfaraz did not play in Australia. In India he played and did well. Give him a chance at least and see. He has scored runs. I dont understand the selection policy. Two batters are playing, two wicketkeepers, someone is playing as an all-rounder. How much has Nitish bowled even for SRH? He has come through SRH, let’s be clear,” he added. Ad Nitish Kumar Reddy did not play the first Test against South Africa in Kolkata. In the second Test, he made 10 runs off 18 balls in the first innings and has yet to bowl in the second innings so far. Kris Srikkanth questions India’s changes in batting order The former India cricketer also raised concerns regarding the changes in the batting order. Washington Sundar, who batted at number three in the first Test and did well, was sent in at number eight in the first innings of the second Test. Ad “Whenever Sundar has gotten an opportunity he has done very well. Throughout his career his Test record in batting is brilliant. Reasonably good in bowling. Good in bowling and very good in batting. One match he comes at three, then at eight,” he said. In 17 Tests and 28 innings, Sundar has scored 869 runs at an average of 43. 45 with a hundred and five half-centuries. Even as India were bowled out for 201 in their first innings of the ongoing second Test, Sundar scored a vital 92-ball 48. Ad Srikkanth added that performances for some players are overhyped too soon. He pointed out that while Dhruv Jurel scored a century against the West Indies, he could not be called a deadly batter yet. “Jurel also scored against West Indies. But you cannot call him deadly. He is not a deadly batter. You have to see the opposition also. This is the problem. We keep on saying they scored here, they scored there.” Jurel has struggled with the bat against South Africa so far. He had scores of 14 and 13 in both innings of the first Test, respectively and was dismissed for a duck in the first innings of the second Test. × Feedback Why did you not like this content?
