In November, the Indian government released a comprehensive strategy aimed at bolstering the country’s emerging artificial intelligence sector. Alongside this strategy, detailed guidelines for AI governance were also introduced to ensure responsible development and deployment of AI technologies.
“We have come out with a framework [where] I think we have balanced nimble regulation with innovation,” said Ajay Kumar Sood, India’s principal scientific advisor, in an interview with Science|Business.
Sood led the advisory group responsible for drafting the guidelines. He emphasized that the framework aims to strike a balance between implementing responsible regulations and fostering an environment where new AI innovations can thrive in India.
