FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. (KFSN) — The two victims killed by a suspected DUI driver near Coalinga have been identified as husband and wife.
The crash occurred just before 7:30 p.m. Monday on Highway 145, south of Ford Avenue.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office has identified the victims as 69-year-old Carlos Pimentel and his 62-year-old wife, Maria. Both were residents of Coalinga.
According to California Highway Patrol officers, 30-year-old Shawn Borecha of Riverside was heading south on Highway 145 when he veered into the northbound lane in an attempt to pass two cars.
Borecha’s car collided head-on with the victims’ Hyundai, resulting in the deaths of both Carlos and Maria Pimentel.
Borecha suffered minor injuries. He was arrested for DUI and now faces multiple felony charges, including manslaughter.
