Oregon is losing another piece from its secondary as Daylen Austin has entered the transfer portal. The redshirt sophomore will not be with the Ducks for the remainder of the College Football Playoff.
This season, Austin recorded 10 tackles, including one for loss, along with three pass breakups and an interception. He has two years of eligibility remaining. In 2024, he tallied 10 tackles, and during his redshirt year in 2023, he added three tackles with one pass breakup.
Austin is currently facing a pending felony trial related to an alleged hit-and-run incident in downtown Eugene in April 2024. He pleaded not guilty in February to a Class B felony charge of failing to perform the duties of a driver when another person is injured. The charge stems from an incident on April 15, 2024, when Austin fatally struck Frank William Seaman with his SUV near the intersection of West Fourth Avenue and Polk Street.
Originally scheduled for last August, Austin’s trial was delayed due to a petition for review by the Oregon Supreme Court, which was subsequently denied. The trial is now set for February 2, 2027.
A highly touted recruit, Austin was rated a four-star prospect and ranked No. 12 among cornerbacks and No. 121 overall in the 2023 class, according to the 247Sports Composite.
Austin’s departure marks the eleventh from the University of Oregon this offseason. He joins defensive backs Jahlil Florence, Dakoda Fields, Solomon Davis, Sione Laulea, and Kingston Lopa; receivers Justius Lowe and Kyler Kasper; offensive lineman Lipe Moala; quarterback Austin Novosad; and running back Jay Harris.
Looking ahead, Oregon currently projects to have 82 scholarship players in 2026, including 14 defensive backs.
