President Trump addressed a controversial video posted to his social media account late Friday, which included a racist depiction of Barack and Michelle Obama as apes. Speaking to reporters on Air Force One, he said he had only watched the beginning of the video and did not see the portion showing the former president and first lady.
“I just looked at the first part,” the president explained, noting that most of the video focused on alleged voter fraud. “I didn’t see the whole thing. I guess during the end of it, there was some kind of a [inaudible] that people don’t like. I wouldn’t like it either, but I didn’t see it.”
Trump suggested that a staff member was responsible for posting the video to his Truth Social account. “Then I gave it to the people. Generally they’d look at the whole thing, but I guess somebody didn’t, and they posted,” he said. “We took it down as soon as we found out about it.”
This is a breaking story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
