Demonstrators gather at Aurora PD after video shows officers, students clashing at anti-ICE protest

**Young Demonstrators Call for Aurora Police Chief’s Resignation After Arrests During Protest**

AURORA, Ill. (WLS) — On Tuesday night, young demonstrators gathered outside the Aurora Police Department to call for the resignation of the west suburban police chief. The protest followed Monday’s student walkout, which ended with three students arrested and a police officer injured.

The demonstration began around 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, as community members voiced their concerns regarding the recent events during the protest. ABC7 Chicago is now streaming coverage 24/7 for ongoing updates.

Newly released video shows an altercation between student demonstrators and Aurora police officers during Monday’s walkout, which involved approximately 1,500 participants opposing ongoing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations. For privacy reasons, ABC7 blurred the faces of two individuals detained in the footage, as it remains unclear if they will face charges.

According to police reports, officers encountered two boys whose actions created “unsafe conditions.” When officers attempted to detain them, the boys resisted. At that point, a third student allegedly punched an officer in the head, causing a cut.

Demonstrators at Tuesday’s protest argued that the officers used excessive force and should be held accountable for their actions.

Police confirmed that the three boys arrested on Monday are students at East Aurora High School. They have been charged with improper walking in the roadway, obstructing, and resisting a peace officer. Additionally, one of the boys faces a charge of aggravated battery to a police officer.

Tuesday’s protest is expected to continue until 7:30 p.m., with officers present to ensure the demonstration remains peaceful.
