Black History Month: Local entrepreneurs selling wellness products

**Two Black-Owned Businesses Transform Health and Wellness This Black History Month**

CHICAGO (WLS) — This Black History Month, two Black-owned businesses are making strides in transforming health and wellness from the inside out. As products promoting health and self-care gain popularity, local entrepreneurs are turning their passion into thriving businesses, while helping others along the way.

Inside the L1 retail store in Washington Park, shoppers can find a variety of unique items from Chicago-based entrepreneurs. Among these is Moonstone Chandlery, a company founded nine years ago by South Side native Maureen Crichlow. Her inspiration comes from a personal journey toward healing.

“I always struggled with anxiety, ever since being a teenager. And I actually started to heal myself,” Crichlow shared.

Becoming a certified Reiki master, Crichlow incorporates crystals into her private healing sessions. She explains, “Reiki is a gentle clearing of the chakra system, the energy center working human energetic body.”

According to Crichlow, energy healing can help release stress, trauma, and emotional blocks. In addition to sessions, she creates crystal-infused energy products such as handcrafted candles and smudge sprays. “The products will meet you where you are and support a specific intention that they are designed to do,” she said.

Another inspiring story comes from Shaun Rose, founder of Natures Dezzert, established in 2001. Rose was motivated by his son Jahari’s frequent eczema flare-ups.

“I wanted to make sure he had something outside of all the steroid creams and things like that,” Rose explained.

A professional barber by trade, Rose began experimenting with shea butter and discovered that this natural product was exactly what his son needed. “It’s lighter, easy to apply, not greasy, and the fragrance is long lasting,” he said.

Thanks to word of mouth and effective results, Natures Dezzert quickly gained popularity. “A lot of regular people and stars are wearing it. So I just want to keep it going and make sure it gets out in the right hands,” Rose added.

These entrepreneurs exemplify how Black-owned businesses continue to inspire and promote wellness within the community — turning challenges into opportunities for healing and growth.
