Shia LaBeouf to undergo judge-ordered rehab after Mardi Gras incident

**Shia LaBeouf Ordered to Drug and Alcohol Treatment Following New Orleans Mardi Gras Arrest**

Actor Shia LaBeouf’s chaotic episode during Mardi Gras in New Orleans earlier this month has resulted in a court-ordered substance abuse treatment. On Thursday, a New Orleans judge mandated that the former Disney Channel star, 39, begin drug and alcohol treatment and submit to weekly drug testing after his arrest on suspicion of assaulting two men in the city’s famed French Quarter.

LaBeouf was charged with two counts of simple battery, according to the Associated Press. The “Transformers” and “Honey Boy” actor agreed to updated release terms, including posting a $100,000 bond, and underwent a drug test during his court appearance. His attorney stated the test showed no illegal substances in LaBeouf’s system.

Orleans Parish Criminal Court judge Simone Levine harshly criticized LaBeouf’s behavior during the Mardi Gras festivities. In addition to striking two men at a bar, LaBeouf allegedly shouted homophobic slurs. Judge Levine expressed concern for “the safety of this larger community” and noted that LaBeouf “does not take his alcohol addiction seriously.”

A legal representative for LaBeouf did not immediately respond to requests for comment but stated during court that “being drunk on Mardi Gras is not a crime.” The actor has not yet entered a formal plea to the charges.

According to the New Orleans Police Department, officers responded to an assault report in the 1400 block of Royal Street. LaBeouf was reportedly “causing a disturbance” at a business, prompting staff to remove him from the premises. Police allege the actor used his closed fists on one of the victims “several times.”

Despite leaving the business, LaBeouf returned acting “even more aggressive.” Several people attempted to subdue him but eventually released him in hopes he would leave. Instead, he resumed assaulting the same man, hitting his upper body with closed fists. LaBeouf is also accused of punching a second man in the nose.

Bystanders held LaBeouf down until police arrived. He was transported to a hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries before being arrested and charged upon release.

An additional police report identified one of LaBeouf’s alleged victims as a local entertainer. The “Megalopolis” actor, who has a history of violent behavior resulting in prior arrests and legal issues, reportedly threatened the man’s life while shouting homophobic slurs.

Judge Levine ordered LaBeouf to avoid contacting the two victims and barred him from visiting the bar involved in the altercation. She also denied his requests to travel.

Hours after news of the incident and his arrest became public, LaBeouf issued a brief statement on social media.

The unfolding situation highlights ongoing concerns about the actor’s struggles with substance abuse and behavior. Further legal proceedings are pending as LaBeouf navigates these charges.
