At least two dozen people wearing masks, some carrying pickaxes and handguns, smashed jewelry cases and made off with bags full of items during a robbery at a San Francisco Bay Area store, authorities said.
Video from the robbery, which took place on Monday in California, shows a stream of masked individuals entering the shop. They used pickaxes to crack the glass cases and clear them out quickly.
The store’s doors locked automatically after the robbers entered, due to security measures implemented following a previous robbery. At least one of the suspects fired a handgun at the door to escape, police confirmed.
Fortunately, no one was injured during the incident.
After the robbery, the suspects fled to vehicles waiting in a nearby parking lot, according to the San Ramon Police Department. Officers tracked the cars from the air and managed to arrest several individuals involved.
In a statement posted on social media, Heller Jewellers expressed gratitude for the outpouring of community support since the robbery. The store also announced plans to reopen on Saturday.
