**What’s the story?**
Aadhav Arjuna, a leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has sparked controversy with a now-deleted post on X, in which he exhorted the youth to revolt against a “wicked government.” The post, widely regarded as incendiary, came in the aftermath of a tragic stampede at a rally held by TVK founder Vijay in Veluchamipuram, Karur. The stampede left 41 people dead.
In response to the tragedy, police have registered cases against several TVK leaders and arrested TVK Karur West District Secretary Mathiyazhagan.

**Social media backlash: Arjuna’s post sparks outrage**
Following the stampede, Arjuna took to X and wrote:
“If the police have become the servants of the ruling class, the only way to restore order is a youth revolution. Just as in Sri Lanka and Nepal, the youth and the Gen Z generation came together to create a revolution against authority; a youth uprising will occur here too. That uprising is going to be the foundation for regime change and the end of state terrorism.”
The post was quickly deleted after many criticized its timing and content.

**Party distances itself from the post**
TVK has publicly distanced itself from Arjuna’s message. A party source told NDTV that the party had no involvement with the post or the “revolution” advocated by Arjuna.
“The party and Vijay will never instigate people or violence,” the source said.

**Political fallout: DMK responds to the controversy**
The ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has condemned Arjuna’s post. DMK spokesperson Saravanan Annadurai criticized him for calling for a revolution despite being embroiled in political deals linked to the tragedy.
He stated, “A corrupt person caught in the clutches of the Enforcement Directorate is calling for a revolution. Is he dreaming that a revolution can be carried out by paying money and using 100 influencers?”

**Legal action: Arrests made in ongoing investigations**
An FIR filed in relation to the stampede alleges that Vijay remained inside his campaign van in Velusamypuram for an extended period during the September 27 rally, causing unrest among the crowd. According to the FIR, the rally was scheduled to begin at 9:00 AM, with Vijay expected to speak at noon, but he only arrived at 7:00 PM.
The arrest of party leader Mathiyazhagan marked the first since the stampede. Authorities apprehended him while he was hiding in a house in the Gujiliamparai area.
