DURHAM, N.C. (WTVD) — On Sunday, October 26, hundreds of runners will take part in the annual RDC Marathon, an exciting event that features a full marathon, half marathon, 10K, and 5K. This race supports the Team Drea Foundation, a cause close to many hearts.
The Team Drea Foundation was created by Andrea Peet, who was diagnosed with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) in 2014 at the age of 33. Despite the typical 2 to 5 year prognosis for the disease, Peet has continued to defy the odds. She even became the first person with ALS to complete a marathon in all 50 states.
Participants and spectators can look forward to seeing Andrea this year on the course, riding her signature green trike, inspiring everyone with her determination and spirit.
The RDC Marathon is a USATF-certified, Boston Qualifier course that winds along the scenic American Tobacco Trail. The race starts and finishes at The Streets at Southpoint in Durham.
Race start times are as follows: the marathon and half marathon begin at 7:10 a.m., followed by the 10K and 5K starting at 7:45 a.m. Racers will gather in the mall parking lot just west of the AMC movie theaters before the event.
