The Los Angeles Dodgers made a shrewd move by increasing their investment to sign Yoshinobu Yamamoto before the 2024 season, adding the extra firepower their rotation needed heading into the playoffs. That additional spending paid off once again, as Yamamoto helped lead the Dodgers to their second straight World Series championship.
Yamamoto won three games in the World Series, including a critical victory in Game 7. In that decisive game against the Toronto Blue Jays, he was brought into a tough situation in the bottom of the ninth inning but held strong. Pitching 2.2 innings, he allowed only one hit, walked one batter, and induced the game-ending double play. The Dodgers went on to win 5-4 in 11 innings.
For his outstanding performance throughout the series, Yamamoto was named the World Series MVP.
Reflecting on his Game 7 performance, Yamamoto told FOX’s Kevin Burkhardt, “I was not sure if I could pitch tonight when I went to the bullpen, but I’m glad I was able to.”
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts was ecstatic about Yamamoto’s impact, exclaiming, “Yamamoto’s the GOAT.”
The Dodgers initially called on Yamamoto in their Game 6 win over the Blue Jays on Friday night, where he pitched six innings, struck out six batters, and allowed just one run on 96 pitches. Yamamoto also started in Game 2, throwing a complete game with one run allowed on four hits and striking out eight.
Yamamoto’s clutch performances were instrumental in the Dodgers capturing back-to-back World Series titles after an epic seven-game showdown with the Blue Jays.
