The PlayStation 5 continues to be an immensely popular console, with Sony reporting nearly 4 million units sold in the second quarter of its 2025 fiscal year. Lifetime sales have now surpassed 84 million units.
Sony released its Q2 2025 earnings report earlier than expected on November 10, 2025. This report provided valuable insights into the company’s performance during the quarter. According to the data, the PlayStation 5 sold 3.9 million units in Q2, bringing the total number of consoles sold since its launch to 84.2 million.
Comparatively, in Q2 2024, Sony sold 3.8 million PlayStation 5 consoles. This quarter’s figures represent an increase of approximately 100,000 units year-over-year. Sony experienced a similar quarterly improvement between Q1 FY2024 and Q1 FY2025.
The report also revealed a slight decline in the number of monthly active users on the PlayStation Network, which decreased to 119 million in Q2 from 123 million in Q1. Despite this drop in active users, first-party software sales actually rose by 1 million units compared to Q2 FY2024, highlighting strong software demand alongside hardware sales.
