Three Lions scored in double figures as Tyler High opened the basketball season with a 74-36 win over the Van Vandals on Saturday at the Lions Den in Tyler. Keylan Bircher, a 5-10 sophomore guard, both hit for 20 points to pace the Lions, followed by Jasyn Grayson, a 6-5 senior forward, with 19 and Keylen Johnson, a 6-2 sophomore forward, with 15. Also scoring for Tyler were Ja’Caleb Black (9), Jayden Dews (4), Jabralyn Jackson (4) and Braxton Tatum (3). The Lions had six 3-pointers (Bircher, 2; Tatum, 1; Johnson, 1; Jackson, 1). Seth Long led the Vandals with 10 points. Kale Carter added eight points, followed by Weston Proctor (6), Jett Stanfield (5), Ryder Savage (4) and Foster (3). Carter and Stanfield each hit three pointers. The Lions return to play on Friday, playing host to Bossier City (Louisiana) Airline at 7 p. m. Friday. Tyler is also at home on Monday, Nov. 24 against Mount Pleasant Chapel Hill at 12: 30 p. m. On Tuesday, Nov. 25 the Lions travel to Palestine for a 1: 30 p. m. contest. After playing Quinlan Ford on Tuesday, the Vandals are slated to play at Bonham (3: 30 p. m. Monday, Nov. 24) and hosting Sulphur Springs (12: 30 p. m. Tuesday, Nov. 25). Bishop Gorman 55, Tyler HEAT 48 The No. 5 Bishop Gorman Crusaders improved to 2-0 on the season after scoring a 55-48 win over Tyler HEAT on Tuesday at Haddid Gymnasium. It was the first loss of the season for HEAT (5-1). The Crusaders are scheduled to visit Martin’s Mill at 5: 30 p. m. Friday. Last week, Bishop Gorman opened the season with a 65-56 win over TAPPS Class 3A defending state champion Dallas Yavneh Academy. Scoring for the Crusaders were EJ Coppock (20), Nate Glosson (17), Jaylon Miles (14), Brooks Fans (10) and Andreas Toliver (4). Next week, TKG is slated to play in the Fort Worth Classic on Nov. 24 (noon vs. Frisco Legacy Christian; 4: 30 p. m. Chapel Hill 85, Jacksonville 74 JACKSONVILLE The No. 20 Chapel Hill Bulldogs defeated the Jacksonville Indians 85-74 on Tuesday at John Alexander Gymnasium. The Bulldogs are 2-0 on the young season after opening with a 64-62 win over Paris on Saturday in New Chapel Hill. KJ Anderson and Marquise Collins II led the Bulldogs with 16 points apiece. Anderson hit two 3-pointers, along with five steals and six assists. Collins had one trey while adding four assists and four steals. Other contributors for CH were Isiah Mayfield (15 points, 11 rebounds, 1 block), Anthony Smith (8 points, 10 rebounds, 2 blocks), A’mare Kennedy (8 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block), Jacob March (8 points, 2 3-pointers), Jaylon Ford (7 points, 1 3-pointer), Malik Gee (5 points) and Ke’Rion Green (2 points). Canton 59, Pine Tree 43 CANTON Three Eagles scored in double figures as Canton defeated Pine Tree 59-43 on Tuesday. Judson Dyke led the Eagles with 11 points with Bailey Holiman and Deon Dekkers hitting 10 points each. Others scoring for Canton (2-0) were Tucker Brown (8), Colton Bell (7), Brody Lewis (7), Clayton Cauley (4) and Cael Pennington (2). Bell and Brown each hit 3-pointers. Trent Fowler led the Pirates with 20 points, including two 3-pointers. Also scoring for Pine Tree were Decorian Deitz (10), Jaxon Waclawczyk (8), Darron Pair (4) and Davin Thurmond (1). On Saturday, Canton scored a 69-67 overtime victory of the Sulphur Springs Wildcats in Canton. Brown (3), Bell (2), Dyke (2) and Holiman (1) each scored in the extra period to lift the Eagles to the win. For the game, Dyke led with 19 points, followed by Bell (16), Brown (12) and Dekkers (10). Also scoring were Holiman (6), Pennington (4) and Lewis (2). Bell had four treys with one apiece from Holiman and Brown. Corbin Argenbright led the Wildcats with 22 points, including a 3-pointer. Brownsboro 69, Henderson 54 BROWNSBORO Gabe Hendricks hit for 22 points with Cam Hardin adding 14 points as the Brownsboro Bears opened their season with a 69-54 win over the Henderson Lions on Tuesday. Also scoring for the Bears were Amry Parmer (11), Jack Anderson (9), Roland Redic (6), Damarcus Wilson (4), Lane Shaw (2) and Jacob Fulgham (1). Parmer hit a 3-point for Brownsboro. Brailon Walker led the Lions with 18 points, followed by Ayden Perry (14) and Cameron Lockett (11). Walker and Perry each hit three 3-pointers. Henderson won the frosh (45-37) and JV (51-49, OT) games. Brownsboro is scheduled to visit White Oak at 7: 30 p. m. Friday.
