The Kolkata Police have filed a chargesheet in the South Calcutta Law College rape case, providing crucial DNA evidence that links the prime accused, Monojit “Mango” Mishra, directly to the crime. Mishra, an alumnus of the college, along with three other individuals, has been named in the chargesheet submitted to the Court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Alipore.
According to police officials, DNA test results from samples collected on the survivor’s clothes matched those of Mishra, strengthening the prosecution’s case.
**Expanded Evidence Includes CCTV Footage**
The chargesheet also contains CCTV footage from the college premises and two nearby shops. This visual evidence confirms that the assault occurred inside the guard’s room. Additionally, the footage captures the other accused, Pramit Mukherjee and Zaib Ahmed, standing outside the guard’s room, accompanied by a security guard.
A police officer told PTI, “The role of the other two accused and also that of the security guard could be seen.”
**Investigation Ongoing: Voice Sample Analysis Pending**
Investigators are currently awaiting the results of voice sample analysis from the accused individuals’ mobile phones. Once these results are received, police plan to file a supplementary chargesheet in court to further strengthen the case.
The case came to light after a first-year student alleged that she was gang-raped on June 25 by Mishra and two senior students. The ongoing investigation continues to uncover more evidence in this deeply concerning matter.
