### About the Vaishno Devi Yatra
The Goddess Vaishno Devi is represented by three natural rock formations, known as *pindies*, which symbolize Maha Kali, Maha Lakshmi, and Maha Saraswati. These sacred rocks are housed inside the holy cave shrine.
The significance of the Vaishno Devi Yatra extends far beyond devotion alone. It symbolizes an inner quest for spiritual fulfillment and enlightenment. Pilgrims undertake this journey with faith and determination, often overcoming physical challenges along the way.
Overall, the yatra is a profound blend of faith, history, and cultural heritage, offering a deeply meaningful experience for those who embark on it.
### Legends of Vaishno Devi
The sacred cave of Vaishno Devi is believed to be nearly one million years old. According to mythology, there once lived a poor Brahmin who was a devout worshipper of the Goddess Vaishno. One night, he had a divine dream of the Goddess, which inspired him to organize an elaborate *Bhandara* (religious feast) despite his limited means. He welcomed villagers and even Bhairavnath, a tantric who had mastered all tantric *siddhis* (powers).
Bhairavnath, becoming conceited, chased after Vaishno Devi, seeing her as an ordinary girl. To escape him, the Goddess fled to the Trikuta Mountains and sought refuge near Banganga. A fierce battle ensued when Bhairavnath caught up with her. Revealing her true divine form, Vaishno Devi struck off his head with her sword, which landed on a distant hilltop.
Bhairavnath sought forgiveness, and the Goddess granted him a boon: every pilgrim visiting her cave must also have *darshan* (a sacred sight) of Bhairavnath to complete their pilgrimage.
Thereafter, Vaishno Devi entered deep meditation in the holy cave, where she manifests in the form of the three sacred *pindies* worshipped by devotees today.
