**Nashik City Head Post Office Declared an ‘Iconic Post Office’ Ahead of 2027 Kumbh Mela**
Nashik City Head Post Office has been officially declared an ‘Iconic Post Office’, becoming the first in the city to receive this notable distinction. This honour comes as part of preparations for the upcoming 2027 Nashik Kumbh Mela and recognizes the dedicated efforts of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection Minister Chhagan Bhujbal.
Minister Bhujbal had penned a request to Union Telecom Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, advocating for Nashik’s inclusion in the Department of Posts’ Iconic Post Office initiative. “Nashik is not only complementary but also an ideal place for an iconic post office,” he stated.
In January 2025, the Department of Posts invited proposals nationwide to standardize high-traffic post offices and philately bureaus. Nashik Post Office, already equipped with a philately bureau, is set to play a pivotal role in promoting philately during the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela.
Additionally, Bhujbal proposed the issuance of a commemorative postage stamp to celebrate the Nashik Kumbh, inspired by the earlier Prayagraj Mahakumbh stamp. This proposal has been approved, with the special stamp scheduled to be released in 2027. Such commemorative stamps, produced in limited editions, highlight significant cultural and historical events.
The minister emphasized that designating Nashik as an iconic post office, coupled with the release of the Kumbh commemorative stamp, would help promote the city’s spiritual and cultural heritage on a global scale under the ‘Incredible India’ campaign.
Known as a prominent holy pilgrimage center, Nashik attracts over five crore devotees during the Kumbh Mela. Officials believe that this initiative will give a substantial boost to philately as tourists and devotees explore the city’s rich historical and cultural significance through these commemorative stamps.
