Tottenham Hotspur secured a dramatic 2-2 draw against Brighton & Hove Albion in their latest Premier League encounter at the Amex Stadium. A late own goal from Brighton’s Jan Paul van Hecke ensured Spurs salvaged a crucial point from the match.
Brighton Take a Two-Goal Lead Before Half-Time
Brighton started strongly, taking the lead in the 8th minute when Yankuba Minteh skillfully rounded Spurs’ goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario to slot home. Yasin Ayari then doubled Brighton’s advantage with a sublime long-range strike, leaving Tottenham trailing 2-0 at the break.
Despite dominating possession in the first half, Tottenham struggled to create clear-cut chances to reduce the deficit.
Spurs Fight Back in the Second Half
The second half saw Spurs come out with increased urgency. Substitute Xavi Simons came close to scoring on two occasions, but his first effort was comfortably saved by Brighton’s goalkeeper Verbruggen in the 64th minute, and his second shot went just wide four minutes later.
Tottenham’s pressure finally paid off in the 82nd minute when a cross from Mohammed Kudus was unintentionally deflected into his own net by Jan Paul van Hecke, leveling the score at 2-2 and securing a valuable point for the visitors.
Current Standings and What It Means
With this draw, Tottenham Hotspur become the second team this season to reach double-digit points, sitting second in the Premier League table behind league leaders Liverpool, who have 15 points.
Brighton remain unbeaten at home after seven matches and are currently 13th in the standings with 5 points from 5 games.
The result keeps both sides in contention as the Premier League season continues to heat up.
