**Zoho IPO Soon? Here’s What Founder Sridhar Vembu Said**
*By Mudit Dube | Sep 29, 2025, 11:29 AM*
Sridhar Vembu, the co-founder and CEO of Zoho, has once again emphasized that the company is not in a rush to go public. In a recent post on X, Vembu shared insights into why Zoho values its independence from the financial pressures often faced by publicly listed companies.
He highlighted that some of Zoho’s ambitious projects, such as Arattai, wouldn’t have been possible if the company were burdened by the short-term expectations of public markets. Interestingly, Vembu described Arattai as a “hopelessly foolish” project, admitting that even within the team, there was skepticism about its success.
### Engineering Focus: Commitment to India’s Tech Landscape
Vembu explained that the drive to develop unique products like Arattai arises from Zoho’s belief in nurturing strong engineering capabilities in India, often referred to as Bharat. He stated, “We built it because we felt we need that kind of engineering capability in Bharat. We need a lot more of such capabilities in Bharat and we are on it.”
### Long-Range R&D Initiatives
Looking beyond immediate profitability, Zoho is heavily invested in long-term research and development projects across a broad spectrum of technology domains. These include compilers, databases, operating systems, security, hardware, chip design, robotics, and artificial intelligence.
Vembu described Zoho as “a kind of an industrial research lab that also makes money to fund itself,” underscoring the company’s unique blend of innovation and self-sustenance.
### Frugality and Sustainability at the Core
An important aspect of Zoho’s strategy is its frugal and sustainable approach to operations. Vembu noted that the company’s leadership team adopts a modest lifestyle, drawing a parallel with scientists and engineers at ISRO. This mindset is intended to ensure that resources are concentrated on innovation and long-term growth rather than chasing short-term profits.
He called this philosophy the “essence of Bharat,” comparing it favorably with Japan’s developmental model.
