Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra was recently questioned by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) for four and a half hours in connection with an alleged ₹60 crore cheating case. Her husband, businessman Raj Kundra, has also been questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.
### Background of the Case
The case involves allegations of fraud against businessman Deepak Kothari through a loan-cum-investment agreement. Kothari, who is a director at Lotus Capital Finance Service, accused Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Raj Kundra of defrauding him of ₹60.4 crore via their now-defunct company, Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd.
### Investigation Progress
So far, the EOW has recorded statements from five individuals, including Raj Kundra. Kundra’s statement was recorded on September 15 and lasted for over five hours at a confidential location to avoid media attention.
### Legal Actions Taken
In September, the Mumbai Police issued Lookout Circulars (LOCs) against both Shilpa Shetty Kundra and Raj Kundra. LOCs are issued to restrict individuals from leaving the country or to monitor their movements. These circulars alert immigration and border officials to be on the lookout for the specified persons.
Both Shilpa and Raj Kundra served as directors of Best Deal TV Pvt Ltd, the company central to the investigation.
### Additional Accusations and Claims
Raj Kundra, who is currently under investigation, has stated that a portion of the alleged ₹60 crore was paid as professional fees to Bollywood actors Bipasha Basu and Neha Dhupia, as well as producer Ektaa Kapoor. This statement was recorded before the EOW as part of the probe.
The investigation is ongoing, and further developments are awaited.
