United States President Donald Trump has announced his intention to mediate the ongoing border conflict between Pakistan and Afghanistan, claiming that “he is good at solving wars.” This announcement follows his declaration of an end to the war in Gaza, which the US helped broker alongside Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump expressed confidence in his ability to resolve the long-standing dispute between Pakistan and Afghanistan, citing his track record in resolving other global conflicts.
>”This will be my eighth war (Gaza) that I have solved, and I hear there is a war going on between Pakistan and Afghanistan,”
Trump said.
>”I said, I’ll have to wait till I get back. I am doing another one.”
### Diplomatic Achievements
Trump highlighted his past diplomatic efforts, including de-escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. During his presidency, he reportedly warned both nations against conflict by threatening hefty tariffs.
>”Between India and Pakistan, I said, if you guys want to fight a war, I am going to put big tariffs on you both, like 100%, 200%,” he noted.
He also claimed to have played significant roles in resolving disputes involving Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as Kosovo and Serbia.
### Nobel Peace Prize Aspirations
In another statement, Trump addressed the recent awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado. He asserted that his peace initiatives stemmed from humanitarian concerns rather than the pursuit of accolades.
>”I did not do this for the Nobel. I did this for saving lives,”
he said, adding that Machado had personally acknowledged his role in her achievement during a phone call.
### Rising Border Tensions Between Pakistan and Afghanistan
Conflict around the Pakistan-Afghanistan border has escalated recently. Pakistan’s military claims to have killed over 200 Afghan fighters in ongoing confrontations, while Afghanistan reports having killed 58 Pakistani soldiers.
On Sunday, Taliban government spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid reported that 30 Pakistani soldiers were wounded and that a “significant amount” of Pakistani weapons had fallen into Afghan hands.
The tensions intensified following Thursday’s blasts in Afghanistan, which the Taliban blamed on Pakistan. This marks the biggest escalation in months amidst Islamabad’s accusations that Afghanistan harbors armed groups responsible for strikes inside Pakistan.
As President Trump embarks on this new diplomatic mission, many are watching closely to see if his approach can bring lasting peace to a volatile region.
