The Los Angeles Dodgers rebounded from an uncharacteristically poor pitching performance in Game 1 of the World Series. The Toronto Blue Jays took advantage of Blake Snell and LA’s relievers in a historic offensive display, securing a 1-0 series lead.
However, Yoshinobu Yamamoto got the team back on track in Game 2. The second-year starter shut down the potent Blue Jays offense, evening the World Series at 1-1. Yamamoto went the distance against Toronto, throwing his second straight complete game. With this brilliant performance, he became the first pitcher to toss back-to-back complete games in the postseason since Curt Schilling accomplished the feat in 2001, according to Sportsnet Stats. Schilling famously threw three straight complete games in a memorable postseason, leading the Arizona Diamondbacks to a World Series victory over the New York Yankees.
### Yoshinobu Yamamoto Continues Dominant Run with 2nd Straight Complete Game
Yamamoto is aiming to help the Dodgers repeat as champions, and he was nothing short of brilliant in Game 2 on Saturday. The All-Star right-hander allowed just one run on four hits, issued no walks, and struck out eight batters across nine stellar innings.
Blue Jays ace Kevin Gausman matched Yamamoto frame for frame through six innings, but the Dodgers took a 3-1 lead with solo homers from Max Muncy and Will Smith in the top of the seventh. That was all Yamamoto needed.
After an Alejandro Kirk sacrifice fly scored Toronto’s only run in the fourth inning, Yamamoto retired 20 straight batters. The Blue Jays simply couldn’t solve him as he cruised through nine innings on just 105 pitches.
This performance came on the heels of Yamamoto’s complete game against the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLCS. His Championship Series start was almost a mirror image of his World Series gem, allowing one run on three hits and one walk while striking out seven batters.
Yamamoto’s remarkable efforts continued the Dodgers’ run of dominant pitching. Los Angeles has now held opponents to a single run in six of the last seven games, with Blake Snell’s Game 1 performance standing as the only exception.
