This week, ARC Raiders received an update that brought more than just the usual patch notes. Embark Studios revealed additional details about a new matchmaking system they have been testing and implementing — a duo matchmaking system.
Importantly, this is not a traditional duos mode. Instead, it’s a matchmaking system designed to make it more likely for duo queues to be matched with other duo queues. The goal is to create a more balanced and enjoyable experience by grouping similar-sized parties together. Embark Studios also hopes that solo and trio queues will be matched in a similar manner moving forward.
In a light update blog focusing on the in-game store and matchmaking, the developers explained how this duo matchmaking prioritization is intended to work. Rather than introducing a separate duos mode, the system tries to ensure that duos will matchmake with other duos, solos with solos, and trios with trios whenever possible.
It’s important to note that this system is not guaranteed to always match players perfectly by queue size. Solo players, for example, may still face off against duos or squads occasionally. However, Embark Studios plans to monitor the system closely and make adjustments as needed to improve the matchmaking experience over time.
